MACC: Review salary scheme of police and agency officers
KUALA LUMPUR: The Government should review the salary and welfare schemes of police and enforcement agency officers to help stem corruption, says the national anti-graft body.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad said yesterday that the review was also necessary to prevent abuse of power.
He said this in a statement following the appointment of Datuk Seri Mohamad Fuzi Harun as the new Inspector-General of Police on Monday.
While congratulating Mohamad Fuzi, Dzulkifli also expressed confidence that his appointment would make the police force a much better and more powerful enforcement agency.
“The MACC is confident that the new IGP will be able to bring changes and reforms to the police force and at the same time ensure that the police are free from any form of corruption and power abuse,” he said.
Dzulkifli said the MACC also believed Mohamad Fuzi would carry out his responsibilities freely, bravely and with integrity, and that the appointment would further strengthen the cooperation between the two agencies in combating crime.
Mohamad Fuzi, 58, was appointed IGP to replace Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar who went on compulsory retirement on Monday upon reaching the age of 60.
Transparency International Malaysia backed the MACC’s call for the review, saying it was high time it was done.
