Addy powers Dragons in win over Farmco

KUALA LUMPUR: Addy Tung Chee Keong was part of the Westports Malaysia Dragons squad for two years from 2014 but never made the grade.

But the 1.65m point guard finally got to show his worth for the KL Dragons BA in the inaugural Malaysia Pro League (MPL) at the Maba Stadium yesterday.

Despite being the smallest cager on court, the 28-year-old guided a ragtag Dragons team formed just a week ago to a surprising 81-67 win over Farmco TouchUp.

He even managed to score over Farmco’s 2.23m import Samuel Deguara of Malta to finish with eight points and four rebounds after 23 minutes of play.

“I was really excited to get on court because I’ve never played in an official match with the Dragons,” said Addy.

“It feels good to finally be given the chance to play. It’s great to start with a win over Farmco.

“We never really expected to win. The coach just told us to go out there and play hard.”

The Dragons, featuring mostly amateurs and juniors, also had Canadian big man Daniel Eves to thank for the win.

The 34-year-old top scored with 30 points and 13 rebounds while Filipino-American shooter Kyle Toth chipped in with 18 points.

Deguara was Farmco’s top performer with 24 points and 17 rebounds while Cameroon’s Chris Kuete chipped in with 21 points.
