Don’t believe DAP’s claim of Pakatan’s chances in Negri, says Chong

-

SEREMBAN: Voters should not be taken in by claims by the DAP that Pakatan Harapan stood a good chance to form the next government in Negri Sembilan, said MCA Youth chief Datuk Chong Sin Woon.

Chong said although the DAP did well in the last general election winning every seat it contested in the state, it too would not be having it easy this time around.

"Umno won 21 of the 22 seats they contested in the last general election and they have been working really hard to capture the Sikamat seat ever since.

“Since Umno alone can form the state government if it wins all its seats, the DAP should stop fooling the people that Pakatan Harapan stood a chance of forming the state government if the party retains all its state seats,” he said after opening the state MCA Youth annual general meeting yesterday.

Chong also took a swipe at state DAP chairman and Opposition chief Anthony Loke who he claimed had promised to have lengthier debates in the state assembly if the party did well in the last general election.

“Loke had said that the party would pressure the assembly to hold debates for three days if they had more seats in the state assembly.

“But during the last assembly sitting in July, it lasted only for half a day,” he said.

Chong also claimed that debates by Opposition party members, who controlled 14 of the 36 state seats, lacked quality.

“The bulk of the issues raised concerned drainage system, flooding and other day to day issues that could be settled at the local council level.

“There is no substance in their debates and there are hardly any topics raised on policy matters,” he said.

Chong said voters should not only believe what politicians said now but should also recall what they had said previously.

He said although the DAP had been criticising the likes of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former deputy premiers Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, they were now allies.

“But the DAP is now glorifying these same people. From this, one can see the true colours of the DAP,” he added.

Umno won 21 of the 22 seats they contested in the last general election and they have been working really hard to capture the Sikamat seat ever since.
