Festive joy for home’s residents

Hotel group treats children and old folk to a good time

SEREMBAN: It was a Deepavali to remember for 43 orphans, single mothers and senior citizens at the Nanthisar Home here as staff from Port Dickson-based Lexis Hotel Group turned up to bring them some joy ahead of the Festival of Lights celebrations.

The residents of the welfare home, aged between two and 88, were treated to a delectable spread of festive dishes, including briyani rice, mutton peratal (dry mutton curry), koli methi (boneless chicken in fenugreek leaves), chicken tikka

(grilled boneless chicken), samosas

and muruku.

In addition, several hotel staff from Lexis Hibiscus, Grand Lexis and Lexis Port Dickson donned costumes of famous action heroes, sang songs and performed several dances to the excitement of the children.

They spent a good five hours there before giving out Deepavali packets and foodstuffs such as milk powder, Milo, cooking oil, curry powder and canned sardines.

Lexis Hotel Group president Mandy Chew Siok Cheng said it was the first visit organised by its assistant director of communications Jini Sebastian and her team to celebrate the festival with residents of the home.

“We always make it a point to celebrate major festivities with the less fortunate.

“This is our way of giving back to society,” she said.

Chew said her team will continue to carry out their efforts in different homes every year as a way to extend their hospitality to the needy as well as their guests.

M. Brahmalatha, the home’s founder, expressed her gratitude to Chew and her team for paying them a visit and helping them to spread Deepavali joy.

“This gesture means a lot since it’s rare for the children and the other residents to get such good food and entertainment.

“This only goes to show that there are still many caring and loving people around,” she said, adding that all the residents were delighted with the group’s presence and enjoyed themselves.

The non-profit home opened in 2009 and runs on public donations.
