KUALA LUMPUR: Favourites Farmco Touch Up bounced back from an opening loss to register their first win in the Malaysia Pro League (MPL) – beating the PRG Eagles 75-56 – at the Maba Stadium.

Farmco, boasting the 2.23m Samuel Deguara of Malta in their ranks, were so dominant yesterday that they stormed to a 23-6 first quarter lead before going 38-22 ahead at half-time.

Eagles tried to fight back after the break by bringing in former national team point guard Tong Wen Keong.

But their woeful shooting – just 21 baskets from 85 attempts for a miserable 25% average – put paid to their hopes as Farmco, who lost 81-67 to KL Dragons BA on Friday, held on for a 19-point victory.

Cameroon’s Chris Kuete led the scoring for Framco with 31 points and 14 reboundsm with Deguara notching 23 points and 19 rebounds.

“We definitely woke up after losing the first game. We were a bit over-confident against the Dragons,” admitted veteran Farmco point guard B. Guganeswaran.

“Today we stuck to our zonal defence and our transition play was a lot better. It also helped that the Eagles were shooting poorly.”

Farmco, with a 1-1 record, will take on Filipino side Kings Pinas Asia at the same venue today.

The Kings, who arrived yesterday with only six players, lost 106-99 to Penang Stallions.

In yesterday’s third game, KL Dragons BA beat Verve Club 71-57 for their second straight win.
