Timely good news for family who lost home in fire

-

KUALA TERENGGANU: A family of five, who faced a bleak Deepavali after their home was gutted by fire last month, were pleasantly surprised to learn that they would be getting a People’s Housing Project (PPR) unit.

P. Ramachandran, 46, who runs a soft drinks business, said they were happy to get a new home.

His family had been forced to live at the community hall in Kampung Pulau Kambing after the fire.

Ramachandran said it had been quite difficult for them, especially when they needed to go to the washroom at night in the dark.

“I wish to thank the Welfare Department for helping us get this house in a very short time.

“I got the good news on Tuesday and it means so much to us because we were expecting to stay at the community hall for at least three months,” he added.

On Sept 23, Ramachandran, his wife Chua Bee Kim, 45, and their three children were participating in the Sultan Mahmud Bridge Run when their rented house was razed at 6.30am.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a short circuit.

Ramachandran also received a personal contribution from Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman in conjunction with Deepavali yesterday.

The contribution was handed over by Ahmad Razif ’s political secretary Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Rozailan Ibrahim at the community hall. — Bernama
