Liow: Yeoh was generous and a superb entrepreneur
PETALING JAYA: The late Tan Sri Yeoh Tiong Lay was a reputable business magnate who cared deeply about education and the Chinese community, says Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
The MCA president said Yeoh’s demise is a huge loss to the community and country.
“Yeoh contributed greatly to education. Among the schools he helped, Hin Hua High School in Klang stands out.
“With his endowment, Hin Hua developed steadily over the decades and nurtured many talents.
“Yeoh’s generosity is a perfect example of making contributions for the benefit of the many generations to come,” he said in a statement.
Liow said the success of YTL Corporation Bhd, which was founded and built by Yeoh with his outstanding business skills, was a sterling story in the history of Chinese entrepreneurs.
“Yeoh was active within the circle of Chinese associations and was a famous philanthropist. He helped countless people,” he said.
On behalf of MCA, Liow expressed his deepest respect and highest appreciation to the late magnate for his tremendous contribution to the community.
“We thank him for taking an interest in MCA and the political rights of the Chinese in the country,” he added.
When contacted, Liow said Yeoh had also contributed to the nation’s economic growth, as well as promoted harmony and unity among the races.
“We will always remember him as an extraordinary entrepreneur,” he added.
