BN reps petition Sultan over rejected motion on ‘Bugis remark’
SHAH ALAM: Selangor Barisan Nasional assemblymen submitted a memorandum to the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to protest the State Legislative Assembly’s rejection of a motion to debate on Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s alleged insulting remark against the Bugis community.
Selangor deputy Umno chief Datuk Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan and several other Barisan assemblymen handed over the memorandum at Istana Bukit Kayangan here yesterday.
Mat Nadzari said the memorandum contained a pledge of support and loyalty to Sultan Sharafuddin as well as their protest over not being able to debate the matter at the state legislative assembly.
Kuang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Shukur Idrus tabled an emergency motion on Wednesday to discuss Dr Mahathir’s alleged insult on the Bugis community.
However, Speaker Hannah Yeoh rejected the motion on grounds it did not warrant an emergency motion.
Sultan Sharafuddin last week rebuked Dr Mahathir and called for him to be investigated under the Sedition Act 1948 or any other related law in a statement by the Selangor Royal Council.
Dr Mahathir, 92, raised the ire of the Bugis community by saying that Malaysia is being led by a prime minister who came from “Bugis pirates” at the “Sayangi Malaysia, Hapuskan Kleptokrasi” rally on Oct 14.
