Pribumi sec-gen questioned by RoS for three hours
PUTRAJAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia secretary-general Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh has been questioned for three hours by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) over claims of “constitutional issues” in the party.
The RoS had summoned Dr Shahruddin to its headquarters to have his statement taken, following complaints lodged by Pribumi members.
“I was questioned on several issues based on complaints that were lodged by members from several party divisions. They were all about constitutional matters.
“I tried to answer as best I could on actions that the party took, which are in keeping with the party constitution.
“I gave my statement and provided some evidence to the investigat- ing officer,” Dr Shahruddin told reporters after his meeting with the RoS.
He arrived at about 10am yesterday and emerged from the headquarters just after 1pm.
He is expected to be called up by the RoS again for explanation on other issues.
However, Dr Shahruddin declined to reveal the exact nature of the complaints.
“The matter is still being investi- gated by the RoS, so I do not think it is the right time for me to reveal this. All I can say is that these are matters relating to the (party) constitution,” he said.
It was reported that several members of Pribumi’s divisions in Johor had lodged reports with the RoS over the party’s failure to conduct annual general meetings (AGMs) at division and branch levels.
The party was also warned by the RoS for using the name “Armada” for its youth wing despite it not being stated in the party constitution.
Dr Shahruddin said the party’s youth chief, Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman, would be called up by the RoS soon to clarify the matter.
“The investigating officer will also call up the secretary on this. A notice has been issued so I think the meeting will be soon,” he said.
Syed Saddiq is apparently overseas at this time.
