Malaysia again fail to notch a single win at ACC U-19 meet

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia have now failed to win a single match after competing in four editions of the Asian Cricket Council Under-19 tournament.

Malaysia ended up winless in the last three editions – 2012 (Kuala Lumpur), 2014 (United Arab Emirates) and 2016 (Sri Lanka).

They continued their dismal run by losing their third straight Group A match in this year’s edi- tion after going down by eight wickets to Nepal in the 50 overs competition at the Bayuemas Oval in Klang yesterday.

Malaysia, who lost by 202 runs to defending champions India and 262 runs to Bangladesh, could only manage 45 runs all out against Nepal in a match that was reduced to 24 overs due to rain.

Nepal needed just 5.2 overs to score 45 runs with two wickets down.

It was the second win for Nepal and they qualified for the semi-finals by finishing runners-up in the group to Bangladesh.

Bangladesh maintained their 100% record in the group by winning their third straight match – upsetting three-time champions India by eight wickets – at Royal Selangor Club in Mont Kiara.

In the semi-finals, Bangladesh will face Group B runners-up Pakistan tomorrow while Nepal will take on newcomers Afghanistan on Friday.

The final is on Sunday.

In Group B, Afghanistan beat the United Arab Emirates by 134 runs at the Kinrara Academy Oval for their second win.

Afghanistan, Pakistan and Sri Lanka were all tied on four points from two wins each. Afghanistan topped the group on countback.

Pakistan finished as runners-up.
