Jakim: Keep abreast of mosque activities with new app

PUTRAJAYA: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi launched the Etikaf App for three key mosques of the Malaysian Islamic Developmen­t Department (Jakim) in conjunctio­n with the opening of the Ummah Planet Carnival at Masjid Putra here.

Dr Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, witnessed the handing over of tithes amounting to RM597,716 by QSR Brand (M) Holdings Sdn Bhd to the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council Tithe collection centre.

He also launched the Syria Care fund, with a RM5,000 contributi­on from QSR Brand, to raise donations for Syrians in winter.

Also present was Federal Territorie­s Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Jakim director-general Tan Sri Othman Mustapha.

The four-day carnival, which started on Thursday, is being held for the first time and opens from 10am to 10pm.

The carnival is organised with the cooperatio­n of Jakim’s three key mosques – the National Mosque, Masjid Putra and Masjid Tuanku Mizan – as well as with the public and private sector.

Jakim’s Islamic Developmen­t Division director Hakimah Mohd Yusoff said the applicatio­n was developed to make the public aware of activities and programmes held at the three mosques.

“It can be downloaded from Google Play for free and the people can get informatio­n on talks or programmes to be held at the three mosques,” she told reporters when met at the carnival.
