Kian Meng-Pei Jing hope to have a good time in first Finals

-

PETALING JAYA: This will be mixed doubles shuttlers Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing’s first appearance in the World Superseries Finals.

This will also be the fourth and last time that the Finals will be held in Dubai. Next year, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) are restructuring the tournament under the World Tour.

So, Kian Meng-Pei Jing intend to just go to Dubai and have a good time at the US$1mil (RM4.1mil) Finals from Dec 13-17.

Only the top eight after the 12 legs of the Superseries get to compete in the Finals.

World No. 10 Kian Meng-Pei Jing were placed seventh.

“It’s great that Kian Meng and I will finally be part of the Finals for the first time. It’s the last time that it will be held in Dubai. So, that makes it even more special to us,” said Pei Jing.

Though Kian Meng-Pei Jing have had a roller-coaster season, they have done well to step up to the plate following the temporary break-up of Rio Olympic Games silver medallists Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying.

The 2017 All-England runners-up have been paired up with different partners following Liu Ying’s shoulder injury in April.

Pei Jing admitted that she and Kian Meng were “lucky” to make it to the Finals.

“We tried our best to raise our game at every tournament. We were inconsistent, so we’re a little lucky to have qualified for the Finals. Overall, though, it has been good,” said Pei Jing.

“Now that we have qualified, we’ll just have a good time. We’ll cherish every moment.”

Pei Jing and Kian Meng’s best result was a semi-final finish at the Singapore Open in April. They also did well to upset Rio Olympic champions Tontowi Ahmad-Liliyana Natsir of Indonesia in the first round of the Australian Open in June.

Men’s singles ace Lee Chong Wei, meanwhile, has qualified for the Finals as the fourth-ranked qualifier – thanks to his Hong Kong Open win last week.

Chong Wei has won the Finals four times – 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2013.
