KOTA KINABALU: Some sundry shops around the city are offering illegal 4D lottery tickets.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din said 22 people, aged between 15 and 42, were held during joint police and Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) raids on Dec 2 and 3.

Ramli said the raids were carried out in Karamunsing, Tanjung Aru and Inanam, near here.

“These illegal betting syndicates thought their operations, under the disguise of legitimate businesses, would work.

“But we will uncover whatever they try to do,” he told the media here yesterday.

Ramli said the syndicates now

use small thermal printers to print betting slips after bets were sent via SMS or through social media messaging services.

He added that police seized more than RM8,600 in cash as well as handphones and mini thermal printers during the raids.

In a related development, Ramli said that the over 10 tonnes of computers and electronics seized by police during the raids would be shipped to Selangor for disposal.

He said the central processing units, LCD and LED screens, keyboards and computer mice would be sent in three 40footer containers to a recycling centre.

Ramli said the 5,545 items, with an approximate value of just over RM1mil, had been seized since 2006.

“The disposal method is part of our green approach to ensure materials are recycled as much as possible,” he added.
