It’s no Sin for Li Jane to claim 2017 as her best year so far

KUALA LUMPUR: 2017 has been a rock and roll year for national bowler Sin Li Jane. And very few can beg to differ as she claims it’s her best year so far.

Li Jane has been on a roll since winning the Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) Tour for the first time at the Thailand leg in April.

She went on to land her first professional title when she emerged as the Lincoln Open champion in the United States in June. The Open is one of the legs in the US Professional Women’s Bowling Tour (PWBA) history.

She kept the fire burning by winning three gold medals at the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games in August and blazed the lanes at the World Championships in Las Vegas last week to win one gold and two silver medals.

“This is my seventh year in the elite national team but it’s the best year so far,” said the 25-year-old Li Jane. “There were several personal achievements for me this year.

“I’ve always watched in awe when the Americans bowl in the professional league. I’ve always wanted to play. Now, I’ve not only had a taste of it but I’ve won a professional title. It’s unbelievable.”

She summed up her SEA Games outing at home as the best ever after winning the trios gold with Shalin Zulkifli and Esther Cheah, the mixed doubles gold with Rafiq Ismail and the women’s team gold.

“I won the trios gold for the first time with Shalin and Esther. It’s an honour to win the gold with the two most respected seniors.

“It was also memorable to win the mixed doubles with Rafiq. I’ve never bowled with him before but we clicked immediately to win. Then, beating arch rivals Singapore for the team gold was sweet.”

Li Jane said she would cherish the team gold – won with Shalin, Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman, Esther, Syaidatul Afifah Badrul Hamidi and Natasha Roslan – the most.

While most of the national bowlers will be involved in The Masters at the Sunway Mega Lanes starting today, Li Jane will prepare for the Korean PBA’s Storm Cup from Dec 17-21.

The others joining her for the invitational tournament are Shalin, Siti, Rafiq and Timmy Tan.
