Videos of MP barred from attending AGM goes viral

-

GEORGE TOWN: Videos depicting a group of apartment residents barring a DAP MP from joining their Annual General Meeting are going viral.

The footage showed the residents shouting at Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik and warning him to stay away from Sunday’s meeting at Komtar.

The caption on the videos claimed the residents were unhappy with the apartment’s Joint Management Body (JMB) for not presenting its audited accounts for the past three years.

It also stated that the residents were unhappy because the AGM was frequently deferred, citing various reasons, and that many complaints had been made to the Commissioner of Building (COB).

However, JMB chairman Muhammad Adam Chong Abdullah denied the claims and said the ruckus was because residents “wanted to create a scene and control the meeting”.

“They stopped Ng, who is our JMB adviser, from entering the auditorium and speaking at the meeting.

“He (Ng) respected their demands and stayed outside the hall,” Muhammad Adam said yesterday.

Muhammad Adam admitted that there had been problems with the accounts since it took over the management in 2015, claiming that the previous JMB did not keep proper documentation.

However, he said the current management was doing its best.

“It’s unfair to blame us.”
