The many benefits of studying abroad
Foreign experience also boosts employment opportunities, say experts
PETALING JAYA: Studying abroad may be one of the best ways for students to gain knowledge and learn to be independent.
The foreign experience also boosts employment opportunities to help the young secure a bright future.
Those who wish to pursue higher qualifications in countries with a long history of education excellence should come to the Star Education Fair 2018, where experts will be sharing information on studying and working overseas.
The Star Education Fair 2018 is to be held from 11am to 7pm this weekend at Halls 1 to 5 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Among the experts on pursuing tertiary education overseas is High Commission of Canada education trade commissioner Jennifer Rodrigue, who will be speaking on the many benefits students can reap from studying in Canada during her talk “Opportunities in Canada”.
“Canada’s universities, colleges and polytechnics offer thousands of courses and programmes that are internationally recognised, with academic credentials valued around the globe,” said Rodrigue, pointing out that Canada is ranked first out of 16 countries for successful employment of universityeducated alumni.
“Canada consistently produces the high-quality talent that companies need as our educational institutions excel in providing a competency-based teaching approach and hands-on-learning programmes that prepare students to be productive in the workplace upon graduation.
“Last year alone, more than 413,000 international students chose Canada as their preferred destination for language learning, high school and post-secondary education,” she said, adding that Canada is also a world leader in research, featuring cutting edge technology and research labs.
MACEE Education USA Advising Centre adviser Kavita Chandran will be highlighting “Opportunities in the US”, and what those keen on studying there should do and expect.
She said there are multiple routes one can take as the American education system focuses on breadth and depth, which makes one a more holistic student.
Selset Education Centre marketing executive Philip Chow will give a talk on “Study Options in New Zealand” and what qualifications one can pursue from the country which has an “excellent education system”.
He will highlight the strong points of universities there, scholarships offered, visa requirements, working holiday opportunities and the overall outdoor experience it offers.
“Students can get the best of both worlds in New Zealand as they can experience its many famous outdoor activities as well as quality education,” he said.
Curtin University alumni Shaun Tan will have a segment on “Opportunities in Australia” which will give an insight to attendees on what to expect when studying in the Land Down Under and what awaits after.
From visa applications to finding part-time employment, adapting to the work culture there and how to successfully juggle it with studies, it promises to be informative.
Catch Rodrigue, Kavita, Chow and Tan on the second day of the Star Education Fair 2018 from 2.40pm to 4.10pm.
