Dr M: Pakatan-Warisan pact in Sabah possible
PETALING JAYA: Parti Warisan Sabah may have a pact with Pakatan Harapan to fight Barisan Nasional in the 14th general election, according to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The Pakatan chairman said parties under the opposition coalition (DAP, PKR and Parti Amanah Negara) in Sabah accepted that they might suffer losses if they were to be pitted against Warisan, which is headed by former Cabinet minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.
“If we were to take on Warisan, they would have losses and so would we.
“So, a form of cooperation might be formed between Warisan and Pakatan Harapan,” he told a press conference at the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia headquarters after a meeting between Pakatan’s top leadership yesterday.
In a statement on Friday, Warisan secretarygeneral Loretto Padua Jr said it was looking forward to cooperating with Sabah Pakatan to turn into a force to be reckoned with against Barisan.
Dr Mahathir said a special committee had also been set up by Pakatan to resolve the misunderstanding among its parties over seat allocation in Selangor.
“There is some misunderstanding in Selangor over which body should be looking into the divi sion of constituencies.
“They entrusted it to the election committee. But actually, it should be a special committee and now we have set it up,” he added.
Last week, The Star reported that there was intense lobbying in PKR on seat allocation in Selangor, with sources saying several incum bents might be dropped in the coming polls.
Among those speculated on were Kapar MP M. Manivanan, Ijok assemblyman Dr Idris Ahmad and Selayang MP William Leong.
Dr Mahathir said the squabble between Negri Sembilan Pribumi members over seat allocation in the state had also been resolved.
