Masseuse charged with abusing son

MELAKA: A woman pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh to ill-treating her five-yearold son nine years ago.

The 40-year-old mother, who was arrested on Wednesday, is alleged to have caned the boy, the second of four siblings, in the face and body, resulting in bruises in the head, eyes and body.

The offence was allegedly committed at a shophouse at about 2pm on April 21, 2009.

The woman, who works as a masseuse, was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which provides for a maximum fine of RM20,000, a jail term of up to 10 years or both upon conviction.

Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi allowed the woman to be released on bail of RM10,000 in one surety and set March 1 for mention.
