> Tradition vs kindness
I have been pondering the use of bulls to pull the heavy silver chariot during Thaipusam. A few years ago, I suggested to my friends that we go high-tech as we are in a new millennium and not abuse the poor animals. If only they could speak! But I was told it was tradition to use bulls. Yesterday I watched a video on Facebook of the procession in Penang. Both the bulls were struggling to pull the massive chariot which also had a dozen people on it. I appeal to the organising team to brainstorm and come up with an alternative solution. Penang has very few breeders and the size of the bulls yesterday were small compared to the majestic bulls of yesteryear that I saw while growing up in my kampong and the neighbouring Kampong Buah Pala (village nicknamed High Chaparral).
