Pals from Norway win flip slide competition
GEORGE TOWN: It was a breeze for childhood friends Andre Killingmoe and Joakim Prikasky to strike a pose after “flying” several metres in the air from ESCAPE Waterplay’s Banana Flip slide.
Both buddies, 20, from Norway, clinched the first and second place respectively at the flip slide’s inaugural competition at the theme park yesterday.
Killingmoe, who not only did a back flip but also managed to “dab” (a move in which a person drops the head into the bent crook of a slanted arm) in mid-air, said he did not put much thought into the competition and was surprised by his win.
Prikasky said it was all in good fun and his pose was inspired by ski moves and bouncing off a trampoline.
“It was just fun for us as we did not know about the competition until we came to the park,” he said, adding that it was nice that they were given time to practise.
Killingmoe won RM1,000 while Prikasky took home an ESCAPE T-shirt. Both walked away with an ESCAPE Passport worth RM980, giving them free entry into the theme park for a year.
Coming in third was accounting student Kee Wei Lam, 21, who struck a “fish pose” mid-air after his friends coaxed him to try the move.
“I did not expect to win, it was a fun competition,” he said, taking home an ESCAPE cap and a Passport as well.
ESCAPE special events consultant Chris Gan said there was a great turnout and they planned to come up with more special events.
“This specific competition was to encourage people to try the slide and it may seem scary at first,” he said.
“But it is good fun.”
