‘All options on the table if Pribumi is deregistered’
KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has reiterated that all options will be considered if his party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi), is deregistered.
The Pakatan Harapan chairman said what was important was for the people “to know who is contesting”.
“I am open. I can even stand under DAP ... I can stand as the DAP president. All things will be considered,” he told a press conference at Parliament lobby yesterday.
Dr Mahathir, who is also Pribumi chairman, was commenting on the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) notice dated Feb 28 requiring the party to submit minutes of meetings held at branch, division and central levels.
The RoS had said that failure to do so could result in followup action for Pribumi to be deregistered.
On approval for Pakatan as an Opposition pact, Dr Mahathir said the four parties involved would continue to work as one leading up to the general election.
“Whether approved or not, we are still Pakatan. We will behave like Pakatan and will work together and discuss with each other.
“The presidential council will be the main organisation to direct Pakatan’s activities,” he added.
Asked if the nonapproval move would affect campaigning efforts in the coming election, he said: “Of course, if they don’t approve it will be more difficult, but we will still campaign as Pakatan.”
He also chided PAS’ manifesto, which he said was aimed at wooing nonMuslim support, describing it as “unIslamic”.
He said PAS had once accused his administration of being kafir (infidels) when he worked with nonMuslims.
Dr Mahathir said PAS had previously cooperated with DAP, which could be deemed unIslamic.
