KUALA LUMPUR: Time almost stood still for three lucky fans of South Korean celebrity Park Bo-gum when they got the chance to use Samsung’s latest Galaxy S9 smartphone to take a super slow-mo video with him.

Thousands of fans thronged Pavilion’s Central Square to grab the chance to be close to the actor, who rose to popularity for his roles in TV dramas Wonderful Days, Love in the Moonlight and box office hit The Admiral: Roaring Currents.

“It’s been so long since I last visited KL, I want to capture my fans’ expressions. When you capture the moment in slow motion, it definitely makes it more memorable,” said Park when asked what he would most want to capture in slow-mo with the S9 and S9+.

Samsung Malaysia Electronics president Yoonsoo Kim said the camera-centric smartphone reflected how visual communication was now the preferred way to communicate on social media.

Built on the slogan “The Camera. Reimagined”, the S9 and S9+ feature a dedicated chip for image-process- ing, able to process photos four times faster and also reduce noise in low light situations.

Both smartphones boast a 12-megapixel Super Speed Dual Pixel rear camera that is able to shift the aperture from f/ 1.5 to f/ 2.4 that lets in more light when it’s dark and less light when it’s too bright for clearer, sharper photos, as well as a front-facing 8-megapixel ( f/1.7) camera for shooting selfies.

The S9 features a 5.8in Quad HD curved Super Amoled screen, while the S9+ has a larger 6.2in screen.

The Galaxy S9 64GB retails for RM3,299 while the S9+ will come in several capacities – 64GB (RM3,799), 128GB (RM3,999) and 256GB (RM4,399).

They will be available in a variety of colours, including Midnight Black, Coral Blue and the new Lilac Purple.

To celebrate its launch in Malaysia, Samsung Malaysia Electronics has organised a limited-time roadshow promotion at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Queensbay Mall in Penang and Aeon Bandar Dato Onn in Johor Baru.

Until March 18, customers who purchase a new Galaxy S9 or S9+ would be eligible for Samsung gifts, which include a free Samsung Wireless Charger Stand worth RM279 (limited to 2,300 units), 30% off the Samsung Gear Sport smartwatch, as well as RM50 off on a variety of phone covers.

There is also the Trade Up Programme, where customers can trade in selected devices with an extra trade-up value of up to RM400, to be used towards purchasing a new Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9+.
