Gagasan ready to be the kingmaker at GE14, says Abdul Hadi

KOTA BARU: The PAS-led Gagasan Sejahtera is not only prepared to take on Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan in multi-cornered fights, it is also ready to be the kingmaker post-GE14, says PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

The leader of the Islamist party said if PAS could secure between 20% and 27% of the 222 parliamen- tary seats, rival coalitions Barisan and Pakatan may not be able to form the government without roping the party in.

“When that time comes, we could impose our conditions,” he told the party’s supporters at the Rise and Defend Kelantan gathering at Padang Perdana on Friday night.

Abdul Hadi said Gagasan, which also comprises Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan) and Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa), would be setting its sights on winning a simple majority so that it could rule the country and improve the livelihood of all the people.

“Or if we win between 45 and 60 parliamentary seats, we will be the kingmaker,” he said.

He added that Gagasan would take on their rivals in multi-cornered fights.

Abdul Hadi also took a swipe at Pakatan component parties for failing to tell DAP off when it openly undermined Islam.

“Other parties in Pakatan are lembu kenyang, they dare not defend Islam,” he said, using the phrase to describe that when one is well-fed, the person is not bothered to fight.

Abdul Hadi said PAS would abolish the Goods and Services Tax and the Sales and Service Tax if it comes to power, and adopt Islamic economy to generate revenue without burdening the poor.
