Razman suffers for Selangor in comeback win

- By K. RAJAN

PETALING JAYA: Selangor skipper Razman Roslan literally took one for the team in the FA Cup third round.

The defender picked up a knee injury in the first minute of the game but soldiered on to finish the first half as the Red Giants staged a comeback to beat Terengganu 3-1 at the Sultan Ismail Stadium on Friday.

“I landed awkwardly and twisted my knee after challenging for a high ball but I decided to play on. The team needed me and I’m glad that we managed to win,” said the 33-year-old.

“The pain was unbearable and I skipped the second half. It looks like a ligament damage and I’ll have a scan on Monday to see the extent of the injury. I hope it’s

nothing serious.

“My team needed me. We were on a losing streak and we were desperate for a win, so as the team captain I had to set an example to others.”

The Red Giants found themselves in danger of another loss after the Turtles took the lead through Mohd Shahrul Aizad Zulkifli in the 23rd minute.

But Selangor equalised through Rufino Segovia’s header in the 27th minute before Evan Dimas gave them the lead in the 60th minute.

Segovia sealed the win with a spotkick in the 70th minute after Joseph Kallang Tie was brought down in the box by Fitri Omar.

Razman said the team were under pressure for a win after being winless in three games in the Super League which resulted in the team management’s decision to “rest” head coach P. Maniam last week.

“This win is not the result of the change. I told the players to play their best, give the best fight,” he said.

“We lost 4-1 to Terengganu last month and that’s because we couldn’t cope with their attacks. This time, we managed to contain them. Our attackers played their part and it all worked well for us.”
