PEKAN: Barisan Nasional members have to remain fiercely loyal to the leadership, its chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

He said this did not mean loyalty to him personally but to whoever is leading the coalition.

“Even in a winnable situation, the tide can turn if there is a lack of loyalty, “he said.

“Forget about the party election for now. Get it out of your head because right now, the general election matters most,” the Prime Minister said.

Najib, who is also Pekan MP, was speaking before launching the Pekan Barisan’s election machinery here yesterday.

“What’s the point of having a party position if one loses his power? The struggle can only be continued with political power,” he said.

Najib also told the Barisan machinery to sort out any internal problems as this could destroy the coalition from within.

“Leaders come and go but the parties will always be there. So prioritise your responsibilities because Umno and Barisan have a heritage that was passed down from past leaders.

“We have to pass the parties and country on to our children and grandchildren in an even better condition,” he said.

Najib reminded the crowd of his goal of a 40,000-vote majority, which must be achieved by his election machinery.

He defended Pekan with the largest majority of 35,613 votes among all Barisan candidates in the 2013 election.
