SIBU: SUPP isn’t about to play hardball to woo voters, instead it plans to serenade them, at least in the Lanang seat.

The Barisan Nasional component party has chosen We Are Different, a popular song in China, as their theme in Lanang.

Originally sung by Chinese national Da Zhuang, the song has struck a chord among working people in China.

The lyrics touches on standing together, rain or shine, as brothers even though they have different thoughts, ideals and upbringing.

“In Sarawak, we always enjoy racial harmony and culture and religion tolerance,” said Dudong SUPP branch chairman Wong Ching Yong.

He said the local Sarawak political parties such PBB and SUPP were independent of those from the peninsula.

Two local singers, Ling Sing Kiong and Chiew Mei Mei, will be singing the song during the election campaign.

“That is, if SUPP is confirmed to be contesting in Lanang,” he said.

According to him, SUPP’s splinter party, UPP, was also eyeing the seat.

“We are very confident that the candidate will be from us,” he told reporters yesterday.

The branch picked two members – Kelvin Kong and Joseph Chieng as potential candidates – for the seat which was won by Alice Lau of DAP in the last election.

UPP has proposed businessman Andrew Ting as its man for the seat.
