Thai woman among drug ring suspects
KAJANG: More than 140kg of syabu worth RM10mil and a handgun with 90 live bullets were found during raids on a drug syndicate believed to have been peddling its wares in and outside the country.
From March 29 to 30, five raids were conducted in Kajang and Gombak in Selangor, and Melaka.
“These led to the arrest of six people, including a Thai woman,” Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh told reporters at the police headquarters here yesterday.
“Two of the suspects have previous criminal and drug-related offences, including one under Section 302 of the Penal Code (for murder),” he said.
Comm Mohmad Salleh said the six suspects, aged between 35 and 57, were remanded until April 5.
The syndicate leader is understood to be among those arrested.
The raids – conducted by a combined team comprising members of STING (Bukit Aman Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group) and respective states’ NCIDs – were mainly done in Selangor where most of the drugs were found.
A raid at a shophouse along Jalan Tun Abdul Aziz here saw the seizure of 120 syabu-filled packages.
In Batu Caves, Gombak, police arrested three of the suspects when they raided a condominium unit where more syabu, including a 11kg drug-filled package, was discovered.
In Bukit Pulau, Melaka, police made a shocking discovery as they arrested the female foreigner.
“We found a handgun and 90 9mm bullets,” Comm Mohmad Salleh said, adding the urine test on the suspect came back negative.
“We are investigating if the group has ties to any known secret societies or gangs,” he said.
It is believed the syndicate received its supply from a neighbouring country and was primarily a drug distributor who marketed the products.
