New school to open by 2020
THE long-awaited construction of SMK Kota Kemuning 2 will be starting soon.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, who performed the ground breaking ceremony of the 3.2ha land last Friday, said the new school should be able to start operations by January 2020.
He said the school will consist of four blocks. This will include 36 classrooms, science labs, a field, a multi-functional hall as well as other facilities.
“The construction of the school is made possible through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between the ministry and SEGi International Group Sdn Bhd,” he told a press conference at the site.
He said the arrangement under the PPP meant that SEGi will build the school - which costs roughly RM42mil - in return for a 2.4ha government land in Sungai Buloh.
“SEGi will be building an early childhood and childcare education hub on that land,” he said.
Also present were Tiew Hock Huat from Gerakan, SEGi International Group Sdn Bhd director Datuk John Hii, Education secretary-general Datuk Seri Alias Ahmad and deputy director-general (education operations sector) Aminudin Adam.
It was earlier reported that the construction of the school is to accommodate the growing number of students in the township.
At present, SMK Kota Kemuning 1 is the only secondary school for six primary schools within the Kota Kemuning area.
