The intakes for the one-year foundation courses are on April 7 and 8.

This is the second year that DHU is providing scholarships for foundation programmes, which the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) does not cover.

A fully-owned education subsidiary of DRB-Hicom Bhd, DHU is a stepping stone to gaining industrial training experience or working with one of the conglomerate’s subsidiaries.

With subsidiaries ranging from automotive to property and services industries, brands by the DRB-Hicom include Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Proton, Glenmarie Properties and Pos Malaysia.

The university also has its sights set on becoming the automotive education hub in the Asean region.

DHU started out as the International College of Automotive Malaysia in 2010 and became a full-fledged university in 2016. Now, the university has expanded to offer programmes beyond automotive.

Successful applicants will study at DHU’s campus in Pekan, Pahang.

Priding itself as being a university created “by the industry, for the industry”, DHU has big plans for the future.

DHU vice-chancellor and chief executive officer Prof Datuk Sr Dr Omar Osman said that the univer- sity aims to become an automotive education hub in the Asean region.

In its five-year plan, DHU also aims to accept more foreign students as well as collaborate with industry partners at the Asean level.

The university currently has its sights set on a student exchange programmes with universities under the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group.

Apart from that, an advisory board for automotive tertiary education at the university is also in the pipeline.

Prof Omar believes that the technology progression would be a game changer in the future.

“Mobility technology is moving toward electronic and new energy vehicles. A lot of the mechanics of the car and the system that goes with it will change.

“In other words, the taxonomy of the car will change.

“It is not so much the grease and cranks of the car, but that the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence will play a big role too. We want to focus in this area and help the nation develop,” he said.

The university also offers courses that looks at the business side of the automotive and services industry. It will also be offering new programmes in Information Tehcnology, Islamic finance and entrepreneurship.
