Suspected paedophile lurked near schools and molested them

MARANG: He would lurk around schools and playgrounds waiting for a chance to pounce on children, molest them and film the lewd acts.

He has so far recorded videos of at least 13 girls, which he stored in his phone.

He would ask the young victims to show him to the toilet and molest them there.

The traumatised victims would later comply with his request to keep silent.

This went on until a frightened eight-year-old ran crying to her teacher.

The suspected paedophile was later arrested on March 27, several hours after the teacher and the girl’s family lodged a police report.

The police also seized two of the suspect’s phones and found 15 videos of his lewd acts on one of them.

Terengganu CID chief Asst Comm Fazlisyam Abdul Majid said the suspect, a 20-year-old air-conditioning technician, is believed to have been on the prowl since last year and was arrested at his home in Marang.

“He would wait outside schools between 1pm and 2pm, when pupils would be waiting for their parents to fetch them,” he said.

ACP Fazlisyam added that the man would also be on the hunt on weekends between 4pm and 5pm at playgrounds.

It is learnt that he had been around eight schools in Marang and three schools in Kuala Terengganu.

“We identified 13 victims from the videos he stored on his phone and 10 of them are from Marang,” he added.

ACP Fazlisyam said the case also caught the attention of Bukit Aman, which assisted in the case, for the most number of victims by one suspect.

The case is being investigated under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

The suspect is expected to be charged for his crimes soon and if convicted, he could face up to 30 years in jail and whippings.

ACP Fazlisyam advised parents to be cautious. “We must protect our children, and I urge parents to be cautious and listen to their troubles.”
