The 51-year-old woman had just returned to her home in Merlimau, Melaka, at 11.30pm on Sunday after having dinner with relatives when she saw a cat at her doorstep.

She put her handbag on a chair in front of her house and went to shoo away the cat.

After that, she forgot about the handbag and went inside the house.

She only realised that the bag was outside the next morning, but by then it had disappeared.

The content included a RM15,000 gold necklace, a RM2,800 gold pendant, a RM1,100 ankle chain, two rings worth RM4,000 and RM3,040 in cash.

“I quickly pulled her out and called an ambulance but she was already unconscious,” he said.

The child died on Monday, the daily said.

According to the father, he had gone to check if another pool had a water sprinkler feature which his daughter enjoyed.
