NGO to focus on demands of Tamil community
THE Naam Tamilar NGO will organise a nationwide tour in conjunction with the 14th General Election to highlight the demands of the Tamil community, Malaysia Nanban reported.
The Tamil activist NGO’s chief M. A. Kalaimugilan, who also heads the tour organising committee, said it would kick off with a conference at the Chinese Assembly Hall in Kuala Lumpur on April 22.
The gathering will discuss 14 major problems faced by the Tamil community and reveal the final list of demands.
The association will then embark on a campaign tour in the eight states with the largest number of Indian voters to present their demands.
“The association feels that the issues faced by the community are not being addressed by political parties,” said Kalaimugilan.
“Many issues regarding education, economic participation and property ownership are still unresolved.”
> The Urumee Melam Musicians Association of Malaysia will release a new album of folk music titled Urumee Samrajyam on April 22, Malaysia Nanban reported.
Its president B. Shiva, 37, said the association, which currently has upwards of 400 urumee (drum) troupes registered as members, is releasing the album to provide greater exposure for the music and the artists.
Shiva urged urumee fans and the community to turn up for the release and show their support by buying the album, which will feature some of the best urumee music from local musicians.
