Man kills friend who pestered him to return RM300 loan

-

KOTA KINABALU: Angry at being pestered to pay up his RM300 debt, a man allegedly killed his friend who had loaned him the money.

The suspect slashed his friend, Fazrin Ibrahim, 30, and injured the latter’s 11-yearold brother-in-law while they were travelling in a car at about 1.25pm yesterday.

Fazrin was sending the boy home from school and had stopped to pick up the suspect along the way, said Lahad Datu OCPD ACP Hamza Ahmad.

The suspect and the boy were seated at the back of the vehicle.

“According to the boy, he was asleep but was woken up by sudden aggressive movements,” ACP Hamza said. “Before the boy knew it, he was being attacked and saw that the suspect had slashed his brother-in-law.”

Fazrin then lost control of his car and crashed into the roadside of a housing area in Taman Warisan in Lahad Datu, he added.

The boy and Fazrin fled, with the suspect hot on their heels.

“The suspect went after Fazrin but ran off soon after. The boy said he did not manage to go far because when he turned, he saw his brother-in-law on the ground.

“When he went to him, he found a massive slash wound on Fazrin’s neck,” ACP Hamza said.

The boy’s screams for help caught the attention of passers-by who took both of them to hospital, where Fazrin was pronounced dead, he added.

The boy was treated for injuries to his hands.

ACP Hamza said the suspect is believed to have killed Fazrin after his friend bugged him to return a RM300 loan.

A statewide manhunt is being mounted for the suspect.
