Norza wins OCM president’s post unopposed
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria (pic) is confirmed as the new Olympic Council of Malaysia’s (OCM) president.
Norza, who received four nominations for the hot seat, won the seat unopposed after the nomination process ended at Wisma OCM here, yesterday.
National Silat Federation (Pesaka) secretary Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omar Din will be in a direct fight for the deputy president’s post against National Sports Institute (NSI) chairman Datuk Seri Azim Zabidi.
For the five vice-presidents positions, only three incumbents Datuk Ong Poh Eng, Datuk Zakaria Ahmad and Datuk Paduka Mumtaz Jaafar – will be out to defend their seats.
The others in the fray for the vice-presidents posts are Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) president Mahinda Vallipuram, former Malaysia Hockey Confederation (MHC) deputy president Datuk Azmi Ahmad, Malaysia Rugby Union (MRU) president Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya, Malaysian Petanque Federation (MPF) presi- dent Tan Sri Mohd Nor Rahim, Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia (LTAM) vice-president Datuk Mohammad Taufik Omar and MHC senior deputy president Prof Datuk Dr S. Shamala.
For the secretary-general’s position, it will be a two-way fight between incumbent Datuk Low Beng Choo and incumbent vice-president Datuk Nazifuddin Mohd Najib.
Table Tennis Association Malaysia (TTAM) honorary secretary Chan Foong Keong won the male assistant secretary position unopposed replacing incumbent Datuk Sieh Kok Chi, who has decided not to seek another term.
Incumbent Moira Tan won unopposed for the female assistant secretary position.
Incumbent Ahmad Feisal Ahmad Tajuddin retained the honorary treasurer position unchallenged but the assistant treasurer post will have vice- president of the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) Datuk Amarjit Singh taking on Wushu Federation of Malaysia (WFM) president Datuk Chong Kim Fatt.
The elections will take place on May 5.
