Electric taxis for KL by 2020
KUALA LUMPUR: The country’s public transportation system is set to be transformed with the introduction of electric-powered taxis, the first in the world for righthand drive vehicles.
Big Blue Taxi Facilities in collaboration with Fieldman EV Sdn Bhd plan to provide 20,000 vehicles for taxi drivers registered with Big Blue around Kuala Lumpur by 2020.
Big Blue Service founder and adviser Datuk Shamsubahrin Ismail said the vehicles would be built to adapt to local conditions and two experts from China are in town to study the requirements.
He told a press conference on Wednesday that the project required an investment of RM200mil and government grants would be given to Big Blue taxi drivers.
The electric vehicle can travel up to 400km on a single charge.
