Kin­abatan­gan plan­ta­tion worker held for rape

KOTA KINABALU: A plan­ta­tion worker was ar­rested for hav­ing sex with a teenage stu­dent in the east coast Kin­abatan­gan dis­trict.

Prior to the 19-year-old’s ar­rest on Wed­nes­day, it is learnt the worker had been ac­cused of rap­ing the same girl twice, the first time on May 5 and the sec­ond, about a week later.

In the May 5 in­ci­dent, the teenager had met with the girl out­side the house she was stay­ing at, and brought her to her room while her fam­ily was asleep else­where in the house.

The girl in her po­lice re­port claimed that she had tried fight­ing him off but he per­sisted and raped her.

The boy al­legedly told her that he would marry her.

She claimed that on May 12, they had sex again, but at a plan­ta­tion area be­hind the house. The youth fled when they were found out by the girl’s fam­ily.

On May 15, the girl de­cided to lodge a po­lice re­port af­ter the boy’s fam­ily sup­pos­edly re­fused to take re­spon­si­bil­ity for his ac­tions. He was ar­rested at 10am the next day.

Dis­trict po­lice chief Supt A. Sa­hak Rah­mat con­firmed the re­port and said the case has been clas­si­fied as statu­tory rape.
