Special Branch: Khairuddin right to seek help over Jho Low
PETALING JAYA: Former Umno division leader Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan did nothing wrong when he sought the assistance of foreign authorities to track down Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, says newly appointed Bukit Aman Special Branch director Datuk Abdul Hamid Bador.
He said it was within Khairuddin’s rights to lodge report with any authority or law enforcement agency over Low in connection with the controversial 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case.
“He can choose to cooperate with local authorities or those overseas such as Interpol or the FBI.
“It is not in conflict with what the authorities in Malaysia are doing,” he said yesterday.
Abdul Hamid said even the 1MDB special task force cooperated with foreign enforcement agencies in investigating the matter.
“I don’t see anything wrong in him (Khairuddin) reporting the 1MDB matter to foreign agencies.
“In the end, all of us just want to get to the truth and let justice prevail,” he said.
Abdul Hamid is part of the 1MDB task force along with former attor ney general Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull as well as his predecessor Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed.
He was responding to reports that Khairuddin had gone to France to report Low to Interpol.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Khairuddin said that he has talked extensively with Interpol agents to place Low and former SRC International managing director Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil under its “red alert” watch.
Khairuddin said that the duo should be tracked down so that they can be arrested and returned to Malaysia.
“We know where they are. Jho Low must be held responsible for the embezzlement of billions of government funds in the 1MDB scandal,” said Khairuddin.
