Foundation gifts 150 sets of desks and chairs to two schools
SEMENYIH: Eco World Foundation continues its commitment to education by donating desks and chairs to two schools here.
SJK (T) Ladang Rinching received 100 sets of desks and chairs for students while SK Semenyih received 50 sets, worth RM16,200 in total.
Foundation chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said that while the Government is responsible for providing education, the corporate sector could play its role as well.
“We see this as us playing our part towards the future of the younger generation,” he said at the handing over ceremony at SJK (T) Ladang Rinching yesterday.
Since its inception in May 2014, the foundation has spent RM530,000 to assist schools nationwide.
Lee said the foundation also has a students’ assistance programme which helps support the education of about 3,000 students from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
“It’s important for us to ensure that even if a student comes from a poor background, he or she will not be left behind.
“We believe in investing in education because education determines the future of our children. We don’t want children to be left behind just because of poverty,” he said.
Also present at the ceremony were Eco World Foundation chief executive officer Captain (R) Datuk Liew Siong Sing as well as the foundation’s trust board members Tan Sri Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad and Philip Mathews.
SJK (T) Ladang Riching headmistress P. Uma said that her school was grateful for the donation as the students had been using second-hand desks and chairs for some years.
Uma said the school currently has 454 students, and many of them come from lower income households.
