‘PH must not repeat same mistakes of previous govt’

-

PUTRAJAYA: After successfully forming the government, the challenge for Pakatan Harapan now is to ensure it does not repeat the same mistakes and wrongdoings of the previous administration, said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“Now that we are the Government, we must always uphold the rule of law and follow strictly to procedures so that there will be no room for abuse,” said the Prime Minister.

“We must stick to our pledge to uphold justice and be fair and transparent in our administration,” he said at the breaking of fast with members of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.

Also present were party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and Mentris Besar of Johor and Perak.

Dr Mahathir, who is also Pribumi chairman, said Malaysians should be thankful the transition of power after GE14 was peaceful and smooth. He pointed out that there were other countries where parties who won could not even form a government.

“But this did not happen here. That’s why we have to be thankful and proud,” he said.

Dr Mahathir said Pakatan is determined to rebuild Malaysia despite the problems inherited from the previous administration.

One of the problems, he said, is that civil servants had been taught not to serve the country and Government but the party in power.

Now that we are the Government, we must always uphold the rule of law and follow strictly to procedures so that there will be no room for abuse.

“That’s why they carry out instructions that go against the law.

“This will not happen in this government. Our Government will not allow them to go against the law even if the orders come from the top,” he added.

On claims the Pakatan government did not uphold Islam, the Prime Minister pointed out that the previous government had committed acts that did not reflect the teachings of their religion.

On another matter, Pribumi welcomed its newest member Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim at the function.

The former Umno supreme council member and federal minister received his membership card from Dr Mahathir.

The 76-year-old was sacked from Umno following his criticisms of the party and Barisan Nasional before GE14.
