Mayor: RM1bil City Hall projects axed

Repainting of PPR flats and public housing worth RM180mil already stopped

KUALA LUMPUR: At least a billion ringgit worth of City Hall projects have been axed, said mayor Tan Sri Mohd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz.

“A few projects have been chopped, including those that have yet to be opened for tender.

“Easily, almost 10 projects worth about RM1bil were stopped,” he told reporters when leaving Menara Ilham after briefing the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) in the city yesterday.

Mohd Amin also said among the projects already stopped as of yesterday were the repainting of public housing project buildings in the city.

It was previously reported in StarMetro that the RM180mil project to repaint People’s Housing Project (PPR) flats and public housing for civil servants (PPA), which was approved earlier this year, has been called off.

The announceme­nt was made during a meeting with the mayor and 10 Kuala Lumpur MPs on May 30. Titiwangsa MP Rina Harun was absent.

Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai then said the project had been awarded to 10 contractor­s who had previously worked with City Hall on various projects and alleged that the contracts were given through direct negotiatio­ns.

was quoted as saying.

Former Bank Negara governor and CEP member Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz said an announceme­nt will also be made soon on the prices of goods after the GST was zerorated this month.

“I cannot tell you when but we will make the announceme­nt soon,” she told reporters after leaving the council meeting.

She was asked on whether there would be a mechanism to control prices of goods after GST was zerorated.
