Johor’s Khaled going for Umno veep post

PASIR GUDANG: Johor Umno liaison chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin will be contesting the party’s vice-president post in its elections on June 30.

The former mentri besar said he is contesting to ensure Umno regains support from the Malays and the people.

“I’m offering my candidacy as an alternativ­e for the party members to choose from.

“I hope party members will be able to judge the candidates based on their own strengths as each of the candidates have their respective advantage,” he said here yesterday.

Jamaluddin and three supreme council members – Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman and Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid – for the three vice-president posts.

He added that his decision to contest is to demonstrat­e to the people that there are many Umno leaders and members like him who still uphold the party’s struggles and are willing to serve the country.

“I believe that my candidacy will give an opportunit­y for party members to choose the best and those who can contribute to make Umno strong again,” he added.

Mohamed Khaled, who is the Pasir Gudang division chief, said Umno should be a progressiv­e party and not be bogged down by the old ways.
