A step in the right direction

TOMMY Thomas is an exceptional lawyer whose credentials cannot be questioned. He would make a brilliant attorney general for our country, especially when this nation of ours is fixing cracks and securing her foundation.

Monarchists should not be worried because, as a constitutional law expert, Thomas would provide more comfort to the Rulers as he would follow to the line the Federal Constitution and the spirit of it without fear or favour while at all times upholding our parliamentary democracy.

Thomas is not a politician and will not play political games. And quite frankly, his global reputation is too important for him to allow himself to become any government’s puppet. As for providing advice on Syariah law to the King, a syariah specialist can easily be appointed as a deputy AG or even solicitor general. That individual can provide specific advice in concert with the AG.

We, the people of this great nation, have chosen the path and the government we want. Our elected prime minister has made his choice of AG. He had options, and even the formidable Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram was a potential choice. But he has decided, and his deputy, Cabinet and the person Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad referred to as the eighth PM, have stood by this choice.

We need an AG so let’s get on with it. Let Thomas get to work and help our Government to strengthen our nation. Our unity in our diversity is our strength. Let’s not allow anyone from any side to use red herrings and non-issues to divert us from our chosen path.

Remember, it doesn’t matter how many steps we take or the speed we take them as long as it’s in the right direction.
