‘Home office’ under scrutiny
Questions raised over mega-million deal going to ill-equipped firm
PETALING JAYA: A former Tourism Malaysia chairman continues to raise questions about the “Speedy Gonzales contract”, including why a megamillion deal went to company with an office that is converted from a house.
Geeko Tech Sdn Bhd’s address in Petaling Jaya leads to a twoandahalf storey corner unit terrace house in a residential area.
In a blog posting yesterday, Wee Choo Keong wrote that the place looked like an empty house and “definitely has no character of a business premises of a company” capable of handling multimillion ringgit worth of digital marketing.
On May 31, Wee highlighted how Geeko Tech and Tourism Malaysia inked a RM99.693mil deal in just one day, which led him to label it as the “Speedy Gonzales contract”.
Wee also revealed the contract was signed by the 31yearold CEO of Geeko.
Wee urged the AuditorGeneral and the Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission to investigate and call for a revamp in Tourism Malaysia and the Tourism and Culture Ministry.
Meanwhile, Tourism Malaysia directorgeneral Datuk Seri Mirza Mohammad Taiyab confirmed that the MACC had seized documents from its office in Putrajaya.
He spoke to reporters after attending a meeting with the Council of Eminent Persons.
Sources familiar with the investigations said the MACC was still studying the documents and might call people in for questioning if needed.
