Maniam clinches top honours

Palm Garden celebrates sixth anniversary with top quality golf on display

-

PALM Garden Golf Club in Putrajaya celebrated their sixth anniversary as a public course and did so with some fanfare.

A tournament was held to mark the occasion and featured a full field of 132 players. Unsurprisingly, some top quality golf was played.

At the prize presentation ceremony that followed, the players were treated to a special performance by The Strollers.

And it was here that SP Maniam was crowned the overall champion and received the Palm Garden Golf Club Cup. He amassed 40 Stableford points.

The A Medal winner was Gullrahfia Gullrahman, who signed for 39 points, while the B Medal title went to Muhammad Haslam, who came home with 37 points and clinched it on countback.

Speaking after the presentation, Maniam said: “The tournament was well organised and the course was in good shape as it always is.

“You can also tell by the results that the field was strong with many very good players in it - all trying to win. So I’m happy to have come through here and won. But it was not easy.”

Club general manager Brandon Chin said: “The support for the competition was overwhelming and we had to turn down many players.

“Also, we are grateful for the sponsorship of the prizes and goodies, which came from our long time partners - MPI Generali, Carlsberg Malaysia, Sharp, MST Golf, Srixon, Blondal, Putrajaya Marriott, Palm Garden Hotel, Ibis Hotel, Le Meridien, Four Points Sheraton Puchong, Se7en and Ang Mou Toon, without whom this event would not have been possible,” added Chin. “We also had two Rolex watches as hole-inone prizes on offer, among others.”

In 2010, Palm Garden turned the club into a public entity by purchasing the shares of the members. Today it is well patronised by a huge community, mainly drawn from Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
