MSU brings home eight medals

-

LECTURERS from the different faculties at Management & Science University (MSU) have shown their prowess by winning eight medals at the 2018 International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX).

Gold award recipients are Dr P M Ridzuan from MSU’s International Medical School and Nur Shazwany Zamani, from the Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering. Dr Ridzuan presented a new, natural antifungal cream called Dermacol. The anti-fungal cream by Dr Ridzuan has been scientifically proven to inhibit the fungus Trycophyton rubrum. T. rubrum manifests itself on skin, mucous membranes, hair and nails in various forms of skin diseases.

These infections, though non-life-threatening, are difficult to cure and typically recur. The antiseptic efficacy of the all-natural extract of betel leaves contained in Dermacol has been proven in another winning natural product by the same researcher.

Nur Shazwany presented a high-accuracy, low-cost, lightweight, portable writing machine.

The writing machine project offers customisable, true-to-life reproduction of text and graphics at half the current market price.

Its capacity to plot, write and draw on any flat surface and with any regular handheld writing implements such as fountain pens and permanent markers translate into amazing customisation possibilities.

The writing machine is a collaboration project with MSU faculty member Dr Mohamed N Abdulrazaq, Cytron Technologies and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

More than a thousand inventions from 23 countries including Indonesia, Taiwan, South Korea, Qatar and Saudi Arabia vied for the top prizes across 23 categories.

Dr Mohamed also received a silver with his “New Developed Technique for Welding Dissimilar Steels” invention. Other silver recipients are Dr Ruzaina Ishak from MSU’s Faculty of Health and Life Sciences with her “Development of Inulin as Sugar Replacer for Jelly Drink (Jelly-Lin)” and Dr Neni Widiasmoro Selamat with the “Interactive Animated Video for Parents and Caregiver of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder”.

The three bronze winners are Dr Musab Ahmed Mohammed Ali Al-Rawi for the “Iris Recognition System for Windows Security”; Dr Safaa Najah Saud Al-Humairi for the “Arduino-based Quad-copter with Monitoring Camera” and Dr Shahad Nidhal Al-Yousif for the “Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting at Airports and Railway Stations”.
