Unimaginable grief for nurse and hubby after their baby was found in babysitter’s refrigerator.
Pain and fury over her own baby found dead in babysitter’s fridge
KUALA LUMPUR: It was a traumatic day for a nurse on duty at Hospital Kuala Lumpur when she had to go to its mortuary to see the body of her baby who had been found dead in a refrigerator, according to a relative.
Abdul Rahim Ismail, an uncle of five-month-old Adam Rayqal Mohd Sufi, said the infant’s parents – Mohd Sufi Naeif Mohd Pauzi and Farrah Madihah Othman, both 28 – were beyond grief-stricken when they found out about the tragic death of their only child.
“The house was filled with grief and anger,” Abdul Rahim said when met at the HKL mortuary yesterday.
He said Farrah Madihah was working at the hospital when the remains were brought in for a post-mortem after police found the baby in the refrigerator at the babysitter’s home here on Tuesday.
Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat said yesterday the autopsy revealed that the baby had suffered a cracked skull and internal bleeding.
“The doctor’s report classified it as head injury. We will use this finding to investigate the motive behind the murder,” he said.
Abdul Rahim said they had all thought Adam Rayqal was kidnapped as claimed by the babysitter.
“The family lodged a police report at around 9pm on Tuesday. Two hours later, the body was found,” he said. The child had only spent one week with the babysitter, he added.
“Before this, Adam was looked after by his grandmother in Terengganu,” he said.
Abdul Rahim said Farrah Madihah had sent him to the babysitter at around noon on Tuesday and told Mohd Sufi, a bank employee, to pick him up in the evening as she had to work overtime.
“He was shocked to be told by the babysitter that the child had been kidnapped when he went to pick up his son,” he said.
The babysitter claimed that the infant had been taken away by a man she believed to be the baby’s father. The frantic parents reached out to the media after lodging a police report.
The police, however, got suspicious when they were recording a statement from the babysitter.
Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Ali Ahmad said they found discrepancies in her statement and when probed further, she led the police to the body in the fridge at her house in Kampung Nakhoda here at around 11pm.
SAC Fadzil said two women, including the babysitter, were arrested in connection with the case.
They were remanded for a week to assist in the investigation.
Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Hannah Yeoh, who was at the HKL mortuary yesterday morning, said the ministry would issue a statement on the matter once they had received the post-mortem report.
Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad was also seen at the mortuary to offer his condolences to the family.
Adam Rayqal was buried in Kuala Terengganu last night.
