PETALING JAYA: Fugitive politician Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos is expected to be deported from Indonesia within days, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said.

He said a team of Royal Malaysia Police officers would travel there to arrange for Jamal’s deportation.

“Arrangements have been made with Indonesian police (Polri) on the matter and we expect to bring Jamal back to Malaysia within a day or two,” he said yesterday.

Jamal’s lawyer Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin said Polri had concluded the questioning of his client, meaning that Jamal would be deported soon.

“Polri handed over my client to Indonesian Immigration on Tuesday night for the process of deportation,” he said.

Mohd Imran also said the Indonesian solicitor handling Jamal’s deportation informed him that he was brought out of Jakarta’s Regional Metropolitan Police headquarters at about 9.30pm on Tuesday and handed over to Indonesian Immigration.

“All that is left is settling immigration mat- ters before he is deported,” he said yesterday.

Mohd Imran said Jamal, who is Sungai Besar Umno division chief, cooperated with police.

A report by Indonesian portal Tribunnews quoted Indonesian Central Police chief Tito Karnavian as saying that Jamal would be handed over to Malaysia “within a day or two”.

Jamal is being investigated for at least six offences, including creating public nuisance by breaking bottles of alcohol to protest the Better Beer Festival at the Selangor state secretariat building on Oct 5 last year.
