Seremban’s famed ‘siew pao’ sure to be a hit with tourists, says Aminuddin
SEREMBAN: The way to a traveller’s heart is through his stomach and if Mentri Besar Aminuddin Harun has his way, it will be the state’s signature siew pao.
According to him, promoting the Seremban siew pao or baked Chinese dumpling would help in boosting tourist arrivals to Negri Sembilan.
“It is the pride of local folk and has become so popular that even Singaporeans know about it,” he said.
Aminuddin said apart from its beautiful beaches, Negri Sembilan was also blessed with an array of tourism products but they had not been properly promoted.
All stakeholders in the state should actively promote tourism, including publicising its famous foods and dishes, and not rely solely on Port Dickson for the bulk of its revenue, he added.
“We have lovely caves, waterfalls and ecotourism products, as well as homestays.
“We need to do more to promote tourism products in other districts, as well as intro- duce more things that are unique to us such as the siew pao,” he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting.
He also listed old temples, herb gardens and rivers for white water rafting that could be highlighted to tourists.
Aminuddin said he had taken over the tourism portfolio as he wanted to do more to promote tourism.
“In fact, I am already working with some parties to bring in Muslim tourists from Singapore for Hari Raya Haji here,” he said, adding that a blueprint for tourism would be made public by year-end.
On a separate matter, Aminuddin said the Seremban and Nilai municipal councillors, as well as the Village Security and Development Committee heads and secretaries would be announced next week.
Earlier, he accepted donations for Tabung Harapan Malaysia from three companies – Hevea Board Bhd (RM200,000), Lifestyle and Healthcare Services and SCQ Industries Bhd (RM100,000 each).
