M’sia to host 4th World Saiva Conference
THE Malaysia Saiva Samaya Peravai will be hosting the 4th World Saiva Conference on July 21-22 in Nilai, Makkal Osai reported.
Saivism is a major sect of Hinduism with the belief that Lord Shiva is the Lord of the Universe and the Creator of all.
Peravai chairman Dr Nagappan Arumugam said the organisation was formally registered in 2011 after actively serving the community for several decades.
Some 600 people from all over the world will attend the conference at Nilai University.
> A large group of people who gathered in Tamil Nadu hoping to witness the spectacle of a young girl turning into stone was left disappointed when it failed to materialise, as predicted by a soothsayer, Tamil Nesan reported.
The 12-year-old girl, who was very religious, apparently wanted to leave her “worldly and unremarkable existence” in a Pudukkottai village.
The parents were believed to have taken the girl seriously and brought her to a soothsayer who predicted that she would turn into a stone statue at the age of 12 due to her strong faith.
On Tuesday, the parents held a birthday celebration for the girl, conducted special pooja and brought her to the village temple where the “transformation” was to occur.
People who heard about it gathered at the temple.
After several hours of waiting, no miracle occurred and the family went home with the girl.
