> Different perspective

While I agree that BM is a beautiful language and that every Malaysian should be able to converse in it, I find Steven Lee’s comments in his letter “Be proud of Bahasa Malaysia” (The Star, July 6) too arrogant. Who is he to ask people to “pack their bags and leave the country” if they do not uphold the national language? In trying to come across as very Malaysian, his comments are very judgemental. My grandma only speaks a smattering of BM. Should she be told to balik kampung in this case?

> Childcare facilities

The tragic death of the baby highlights the dilemma of young parents coping with the cost of living these days. Pakatan Harapan government, please be innovative, cut bureaucracy and corruption to ensure foreign maids can be hired at reasonable charges. Employers, please set up nurseries for your workers’ children. Parents should partially pay for such services. – Dr Citizen, Pajam

> License or shut down

I’m pleading with the federal government to expedite the licensing of kindergartens, daycare centres, orphanages, old folks homes and religious boarding schools. Those that are unlicensed must be shut down. Too many greedy individuals are taking advantage of the people using these services. – Tunku Razman

> Energy efficiency

On the recent increase in electricity tariff, can the government put in place the necessary regulations to require that houses, commercial/industrial buildings and schools in future be fitted with roof insulation to make them energy-efficient? – BS

> Tennis talk

I agree with Madison Keys that power servers are boring to watch. The lawn tennis authorities should make balls travel at a slower speed to discourage the booming servers. We want to watch long rallies, not one-stroke winners. – Johorapi

> Good wishes

Our thoughts and prayers to the 12 young Thai boys stranded with their football coach in the cave in northern Thailand. Praying also for good weather so that the rescue work can proceed unhindered. Sad to hear that one diver lost his life. – MAM

> Persistent problems

A lot of us have, over time, complained about speeding heavy vehicles and direct employment of foreign maids. Both issues seem insurmountable for previous administrations to solve. It can only be surmised that corruption is the reason why both issues remain unresolved. We hope the Pakatan Harapan government can resolve these issues or at least provide a reasonable explanation.

We have a new Communications and Multimedia Minister but the loan business and Ah Long text messages are still coming in. Is it so difficult to erase this problem? – Sam Tan
